Dilshan targets number one rank, win over South Africa

Swashbuckling opener Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was on Thursday appointed full time national captain until the end of this year says his long terms goals are to make the national cricket team the number one ranked team in the world and a win over South Africa when the team tours that country later this year.

Sri Lanka are currently ranked number two in ODIs behind Australia and although they will not be able to achieve the top position even if they win the series against Australia, they will have their chances when they take on Pakistan in a five match ODI series in October.

"We have got a good opportunity to become the number one ranked team in ODI cricket. We are certainly aiming that. In the meantime, there’s a huge challenge in South Africa. My main target is to win the Test series in South Africa, which we haven’t done," Dilshan told journalists yesterday.

Sri Lanka have never won a Test Match in South Africa.
